Green Lights 03:49
When the morning came I felt alive I felt that life and karma were both on my side Chance and possibility were both on the rise And forces that once were hindering were now riding by Flanking me with good intentions I turned the radio on All the bad news had all got up and gone Wars had all been won and nothing going on today All the roadworks and the crashes gone Everybody safe and happy It felt like all the fight had gone The storm ahead was dead and gone The road was long, but with green lights all the way I put my car in drive It started first time and just came alive Ready for the journey of another life No one causing traffic jams or taking lives Saw it with my own two eyes I felt like all the weight had gone The way ahead was straight and long I'll take it all, there's green lights all the way It don't feel rough against my hand, it feels so far away It feels like love, that old black dog It’s still so far away So now I’m on my way No conspiracies to slow me down or get in the way Planets are aligning now the other way I'm flying down this mudslide to a better day Breaking in a sunshine morning I have no time for wondering The universe is crumbling I woke up to green lights all the way.

In the departure lounge believing What I'm seeing Skating on taxi ranks still breathing While you're leaving If you cant make out If you cant trace back If you cant get home In this fading light Do you feel it, you still need it? Oh in time No matter how hard I try Everybody says goodbye But in time Everybody says goodbye At the arrival gates we waited And debated Stuffing our lives into a back pack On the way back If you can’t check out If you can’t take back What you just shelled out On departure tax Do you need it? Will you need it? Oh in time No matter how hard I try Everybody says goodbye Oh in time Everybody says goodbye I hear them call your name In the boarding hall It’s a final call And you'll be there Already there

Blue mountain woman won't you take me as I am You reach inside of me and make me understand You're a better woman than I'll ever be a man I feel like I could torch the world but I'm putty in your hands. All the other angels push her aside All the jealous ones that try to take her down But the one with eyes like emeralds will always shine This one is mine Your soul is heaven and your heart is tough and true Until they lay me out there’s me and only you Cover, protect me, make me more than I could be You're the only diamond I will ever need All the other angels push her aside All the jealous girls that try to take her down But the one with eyes like emeralds will always shine This one is mine Blue mountain woman what you've heard from me is true I'm shit at writing love songs but I'll bleed one out for you You're born of tougher things that others can't withstand Blue mountain woman won't you take me as I am

Go and find your life of love Go and fill the rooms of your heart I could never love us both enough To give our life any chance of a start You could leave today You could catch the next ride out Could be just in time for anyone Pick yourself up and walk away Take it all back to your home Go and write me off as a bad joke Just another dream to wake from Love can come too late If it comes at all It can damage you for ever more Maybe its just too late I dunno where to start Look at me standing here Me and my second hand heart Maybe we're just no good Met me at the wrong time I dunno what to say I got a second hand heart I put it all out on the table I watched it all swept to the ground Saw others get up and try to love again My beating heart was nowhere to be found It can come too late If it comes at all Love can punish you for ever more I'll just sit here and watch it all play out I need to watch somebody else find their own way out Go and live this life of love.

Once, when I was young I had a superman, of my own He'd comfort me, and keep me warm A personal superman, of my own Once, when I was five I had a superman in my life He'd protect me, and teach me life A personal superman, in my life It followed in time that I'd turn my mind To my superman and see that I had Superhuman powers of my own It followed in time If live my life And see that I could shape the lives of Superheroes waiting for their time.

Tonight you're showing off You're eyes cant see what your heart don't show But if you slip, and fuck it up You know she'll never look at you no more When you love someone You get dumb somewhat When you love someone Now you're faking airs You don't know why but you know she's rare You gotta stop and keep it down In a packed house she's the only one around But ah when you love someone You get dumb somewhat When you love someone Somehow she still don't know But she's the one you’ve been waiting for So keep your cool, and if it’s real Late tonight she's the heart you'll steal.

A fortunate lie Now you're leaving a lifetime of trouble behind Life is a torrent, the river is wide But I want you now My outstretched hand Digging my toes on the bank in the sand Love is an insult you can't understand But I want you now Take one step, walk away Take one step into your amber morning Take my life, walk away Take one step into your amber morning I know it’s time To draw down the shutters and leave it behind Love is a window you close when it's time But I want you now Take one step, walk away Take one step into your amber morning Take my life, walk away Take one step into your amber morning Take my heart, walk away Take my life into your amber morning

Air 03:35
When it’s almost time to leave Almost time to give yourself to grieve Nowhere’s harder to be than here When it’s time to watch him go There’s never words to make the seconds slow Only time to keep your head and breathe Not telling your friends you're still in love And it gets so bad You want it to swallow you up And it sits so unfair You’re too young to have had enough When all there's left is air Breath is gone but his scent still in the air There’s only time to see him leave

How do I know what’s right How do I know the feeling of dark inside How do I know my heart Isn’t a virus deep in its darkest part It breaks my heart Blood is frozen deep in this heart of mine How do I know you're gone Why were you ever here where your light was on? When were you here at all Where were you when your needs were aligned with mine Your chalk outline wears me down it’s Seared in this heart of mine I wanna feel like I did yesterday I wanna feel like I did yesterday When the fever of a lover’s touch would sear into my heart The heat of love a wall around me, a feeding power line of light I wanna feel like I did yesterday How do I know what’s right How do I know the feeling of dark inside? How do I know my heart Isn’t a virus deep in its darkest part? Your chalk outline wears me down it’s Burned in this heart of mine.

Not everyone can think out loud It’s a trick to turn your brainwaves inside out So don’t get too caught up in what they say Coz it wasn’t meant for them anyway Get yourself uncomfortable If you're ever gonna do it, do it at all Coz I never thought I'd get through this But that's the thing about dogs and tricks Indecision holds you back Leaves you paralyzed Don’t matter if its not the highest art Fallen angels drop so fast So what are you waiting for You’ll never finish if you never start When you finish it its a final track Its out of you now and it won’t go back And you hear it on any other day Never sounds like you anyway The hardest tasks will give you more They’re the things worth fighting for The back burner is always the easy fix But that's the thing about dogs and tricks

Milawa 04:49
Took a walk along the Ovens today Took a step into his memory to join him Skimming stones into the water so cold Looked to the old house with maples turned to gold I’m never very good with the ordinary. Small towns locked in winter Makes a young boy splinter Drive through the mountains to the centre of town Past the houses of the ones who bore our names His endless acre of grass and pines All subdivided and gone and I cant find Peace with the ordinary Time now my adversary Head stones cut for winter Breaks an old mans heart And I can't find him, he's gone Just a main street full of stores and wheel chains and one Headstone for a young man Coming home from Milawa There’s a plot up on the hill He always knew where he was going To be with his boy at last He always knew where he was going. (in memory of Paddy Breen and John Breen).

about

Singer-Songwriter Paddy Cummings hails from Melbourne, Australia, where he came onto the Melbourne Alternative rock scene in 1993 as bassist and principal songwriter for Darkhorse, whose “Slow Moving Answer” EP was released that year. Paddy joined alt-rockers Automan in 1999, releasing 2 full length and 3 EP releases including ‘Sleep’ in 2003 to critical acclaim and college/indie radio rotation worldwide. His penned song ‘The Key” being used by Tony Hawk games, X-Games and Red Bull during that decade.

“The Thing About Dogs And Tricks” – recorded between 2012 and 2014 is his first solo release, featuring Paddy on vocals and most instrumentation, and was produced by former Automan band-mate Mark Brunott (ColaWars, Steelbirds). The release has been likened to the work of esteemed Aussie luminaries Josh Pyke and Alex Lloyd, and is said to fall somewhere between Peter Bradley Adams and Fleetwood Mac.
Paddy’s debut solo effort covers topics from optimism after despair, love and family, and also the procrastination and fear that artists encounter during their creative process.

Paddy Cummings has been a fixture in Melbourne’s pub, bar, corporate and wedding music scene for many years; if you have visited the town and been to a Sunday Session or an event or two, you would have heard his voice.
